Why Choose the Higher Certificate in Journalism Programme?
The purpose of the Higher Certificate in Journalism provides students with the fundamental knowledge, conceptual and interpersonal skills to prepare them for an entry level role or a career in journalism and media, and to teach theory and principles that will develop learners into competent individuals who can assist organisations to reach their mission and goals. This qualification is the start of a career path in Journalism. The skills, value attributes, and knowledge reflected in this qualification are building blocks that will prepare students for progression along the learning ladder.
Course Information
The minimum entry requirement for the Higher Certificate in Journalism is the following:
· A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a Higher Certificate endorsement
Certificates are issued by MICT Sector Education Training Authority (SETA)
Qualifications are nationally recognised by industry.
On successful completion of the programme, the student will receive a Berea College of Technology Higher Certificate in Journalism.
- Print or Broadcast Journalist – Pay Estimate: +/- R100 000 to R180 000 a year.
- Photojournalist – Pay Estimate: +/- R120 000 to R200 000 a year.
- News Presenter – Pay Estimate: +/- R150 000 to R250 000 a year.
- Communications Officer – Pay Estimate: +/- R150 000 to R300 000 a year.
- Copywriter – Pay Estimate: +/- R120 000 to R216 000 a year.
- Media Relations Officer – Pay Estimate: +/- R150 000 to R280 000 a year.
- Sports Editor / News Editor – Pay Estimate: +/- R170 000 to R300 000 a year.
