Why Choose the Public Relations Programme?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide students the opportunity to acquire skills required to perform basic and elementary functions in the Public Relations field. Training for this programme is both theoretical and practical. It allows students to grasp fundamental knowledge in the workings of various software packages and the commercial environment and select Public Relations, Communication, and general IT software packages.

Course Information

The minimum entry requirement for the Higher Certificate in Public Relations is the following:
  • National Senior Certificate (NSC), NQF Level 4 granting access to Higher Certificate studies

  • Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4

  • National Certificate Vocational (NCV), NQF Level 4 granting access to Higher Certificate studies

  • Admission via RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) for non-traditional applicants.

Certificates are issued by MICT Sector Education Training Authority (SETA)

Qualifications are nationally recognised by industry.

On successful completion of the programme the student will receive at a Graduation Ceremony a Berea College of Technology Higher Certificate in Public Relations Certificate.

  • Junior Public Relations Representative – Pay Estimate: +/- R160 000 to R280 000 a year.
  • Assistant Public Relations Officer – Pay Estimate: +/- R170 000 to R300 000 a year.
  • Social Media and Communication Administrator – Pay Estimate: +/- R150 000 to R280 000 a year.
  • Public Relations Assistant – Pay Estimate: +/- R160 000 to R290 000 a year.
  • Marketing Communications Assistant – Pay Estimate: +/- R180 000 to R320 000 a year.

Prescribed textbook lists will be provided by the academic department at your campus. Students will receive electronic versions of the study guides for this programme.
