Why Choose the Sound Technology Programme?
This qualification will provide you with the knowledge to manage functions within a sound technology workplace. The areas of employment for sound engineers/technologists include recording, mixing, live sound, theatre, mastering, television, broadcast, film, video, multimedia, and monitoring engineers; designers, commercial producers and music producers. This course culminates in a symphony of knowledge, equipping students to engineer and manipulate the area of audio.

Course Information

You may enter the programme, with:

  • NQF Level 4 qualification

The learners will receive a Certificate in Sound Technology. Certificates are issued and verified by the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICTSETA).

  • Record Producer – Pay Estimate: +/- R400 000 to R550 000 a year
  • Audio Technician – Pay Estimate: +/- R366 000 to R650 000 a year
  • Digital Audio Editor – Pay Estimate: +/- R250 000 to R400 000 a year
    • Use information technology in the workplace to
      enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Work with others for productions.
    • Engineer sound for productions.
    • Set up, test and maintain sound equipment.
    • Plan sound productions to ensure optimal use of
      resources.

Elective (10 required to qualify)

  • Perform DJ activities for an audience.
  • Establish and run a small business optimally
  • Stage Audio/visual.
  • Styling.
  • Special effects technical duties for a production.
  • Manage a studio for routine operations.

Customised study materials which meet the programme outcomes can be accessed from the Learner Management System, Moodle. A prescribed book list is available from the academic manager at the start of the programme, although the study guide available on Moodle will sufficiently cover the exam requirements.

Once you have achieved the Certificate in Sound Technology professional training at BCT, you may progress to other programmes offered by the college or you may earn credits from public tertiary education institutions, subject to its admission requirements.
