Chemical Engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the production and manufacturing of products through chemical processes. It includes designing equipment, systems, and methods for refining raw materials and mixing, compounding, and processing chemicals to make various products. The main role of Chemical Engineers is to design and troubleshoot processes for producing chemicals, fuels, foods, pharmaceuticals, and biological processes. Students conclude their chemical engineering course equipped with the knowledge to engineer solutions at the molecular level and shape a sustainable future.
Course Information
You may enter the National N Diploma programme, with any one of the following:
N4
- N3 Certificate, or
- A National Senior Certificate with 40% in Mathematics and Physical Science
Learners will receive the following:
- National Certificate N4, N5, N6
- National N Diploma on completion of N4-N6 (12 subjects) and 24-months’ of in-service training.
The National N Diploma includes two (2) years of theory and 24-months of in-service training.
All examinations are set and administered by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The National N Diploma is issued by the DHET.
- Biotechnology – Pay Estimate: +/- R350 000 to R1000 000 per year
- Laboratory Assistant – Pay Estimate: +/- R300 000 to R600 000 per year
- Manufacturing – Pay Estimate: +/- R350 000 to R750 000 per year
